Gisborne, NZ VFX and Feature Film Workshop + Showcase

4-Week 3D Live-Action Visual Effects and Feature Film Workshop

In August 2015, we conducted an earth-shattering 4-week workshop in Gisborne, New Zealand. It rocked our world and pushed us beyond our wildest creative dreams.

Below is the outline of our workshop and details of the final showcase we organized for everyone in the city to come and see how talented Gisborne locals are!

This 4-week Visual Effects and Feature Film workshop is designed especially for professionals, educators, and rising university students interested in film and game development. There will be an accompanying introductory demonstration of 3D Printing and its role in fusing the entertainment and medical industries.

Over the course of the month, you will be trained as a creative-industry working professional who has visual effects production knowledge in the world of 3D designing and cinematography for the entertainment industry, as well as the ability to apply it to your upcoming projects and creative business ventures.

In a collaborative studio-led environment, be prepared to gain knowledge and insights into incorporating new digital media technology education into your existing classrooms and have industry support in creating new media curriculum for your schools.

The workshop is supervised and taught by Professor Gabriel Teo, whose extensive years of experience in global media production and creative education have provided him with invaluable insight into current and forthcoming production techniques.

TESTIMONIALS

Jack has been drawn to and competent on computers from a very young age. Aside from game playing and music production he never really considered the design and creative side which uses computers as a tool. Taking part in a workshop such as this which taught the technical aspects and the discipline and processes AND culminated in the printing of the outcome as something he could hold, is a big step for Jack and really broadened his future thinking beyond the range of most 14 year-olds vision.

As a competent musical artist, I was intrigued to what Gabriel Teo could offer in his 4 week Visual FX workshop to help my frugal film making. Little did I know that he would open my mind to the tools and skills that all the big boys in the VFX industry use. From creating textures in photoshop, making 3D models in Zbrush, rendering them into an environment in Keyshot, and preparing them for 3D printing, has given me a creative outlet that wasn’t there before I was introduced to these softwares and techniques. Gabe has spent endless hours finding the most efficient ways to use these softwares, and I’m so stoked that he has shown me these shortcuts. I would happily do another workshop covering color correction and compositing knowing that Gabe has those bases covered too. Thanks so much for the workshop Gabe and Syd.

SHOWCASE VISUAL EFFECTS: 3D Printed Prototypes and Creature Designs By Participants of the 4-week 3D VFX and Feature Film workshop

Over the course of 4 weeks, students and professionals alike learned the ins and outs of industrial 3D technology and have acquired real-world production skills. In this short time they brought to life what only the imagination has seen: out-of-this-world creatures, masquerade disguises, and impressive jewelry.

Finally, all these creations were revealed to the public.

This was a casual event to celebrate creativity and local talents. The aim of this event was to attract everyone in Gisborne so they can see what immense talent dwells in their city! For the duration of the night, there was standing room only. We are so proud of what these visionaries have accomplished in only 1 month!

We were honored to host this workshop in the Lytton High School classroom, where our workshop was held daily. Lytton supported us through every minute of the entire month. We are so grateful to them!
