CGX visits Xi'An Film Group, XISU, and Xi'An Academy of Fine Arts

XIYING FILM GROUP

MAY 2019: CGX Studio, along with guest Jordan Olson, Pipeline TD at Weta Digital, visited Xiying Film Group to discuss creating the first art education base in northwestern China.

Xiying Group is one of the four major groups in the Chinese national film industry. It was founded over 60 years ago and is the primary source of film talents for the entire western China region.

CGX CTO and Professor Gabriel Teo shared his in-depth knowledge of world-renowned VFX training pipelines, educational program development, and the urgent need to train top-level talents in the VFX, VR, film, and television industries.

CGX Executive Producer Erica Song introduced CGX’s initiatives to partner with local universities in Shaanxi Province to develop groundbreaking programs. She also explained the importance of combining teaching with real-world studio experience to prepare students for jobs in production.

XI’AN ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS

MAY 2019: CGX was delighted to visit Xi’An Academy of Fine Arts, one of the most well-known art schools in China.

Gabriel Teo presented about CGX’s approach to production-based training in CG, VFX, and AR/VR, showcasing some of the projects he had been involved with throughout the years, including using VFX to enhance medical research and prosthetics.

CGX Executive Producer Erica Song introduced CGX in relation to the Shaanxi Province, sharing collaborations with local schools and companies.

Our overseas guest, Jordan Olson, Pipeline TD at Weta Digital, shared his experience working at film studios and how successful education integrates real-world practices in the classroom.

XI’AN INTERNATIONAL STUDIES UNIVERSITY

DECEMBER 2018: we visited the School of Art at Xi’An International Studies University to discuss Development and Application of Visual Effects in AR/VR with students and teachers. The day before, we met with a group of teachers from XISU to talk about the growing needs of students seeking to learn emerging technology.

Gabriel Teo showed the students what production is like in top film and game companies across the globe. He also shared his work experience with some of the most well-known studios in the film industry. A highlight of his presentation was his encouraging the students and teachers to hold close their pure artistic creativity.
