Gabriel (associate professor of art and design) worked with faculty colleagues in New York to design and develop the new art and design programme in Beijing, China. Students embark on their Bachelor of Art and Design studies and continue their Master of Fine Arts programme in New York. The inter-cultural study experience has given students diverse study and work opportunities - sharing technological expertise and creative skill sets between the east and the west, and leveraging on the fast-growing economy in China. Gabriel teaches graphic design, motion graphics and 3D animation to undergraduates, and supervises M.F.A. students for a year before they transition their study in New York.

One of the highlights in Professor Gabriel’s classes is regular visits to art galleries, museums and fine arts institutions as part of their study and creative writing projects. Gabriel believes the best designers study a variety of creative disciplines and have the ability to adapt to fast-changing digital media technologies - however, creatives must ground themselves with solid fundamentals in creative explorations and fine arts. CAFA is one of the most renowned fine arts museums and institution based in Beijing, China. Their ability to blend traditional realism with modern abstractism is an eye-opener to our creative insights.

art and design students visit the LARGEST film set in BEIJING, china
Professor Gabriel and his students were invited to the opening of Huhu Studios - Beijing. We discussed faculty-studio collaboration, and proceed to visit the largest film set about an hour’s drive from the city. Gabriel wants to ensure his students get to know about the film and media production, and take every opportunity to mingle and network with industry veterans and executives.
